I became very ill with bronchitis, and was down for a couple of weeks. Then I have been swamped with graduations, baby-sitting for busy family, painting faces at end of school year picnics. Just a whirlwind of activity. It was fun, but I didn't have much time for crafting. My dog, Lou-Lou offered to help, but I don't trust her spelling abilities!
I also decorated some hats. I was making flowers for some headbands and brooches, and I had some extra flowers I had made, and I remembered that I had four blue-jean hats I had bought on clearance for twenty-five cents each. I got them out, and started decorating them with lace, and yo-yos, and flowers, and I think they turned out pretty cute. Not bad for a total cost of about fifty cents each! My granddaughters were over and they saw them and wanted one, so they each choose one, and that left one for grandma. I go to a lot of baseball games to see my grand kids play, it will come in handy to keep the sun out of my eyes.
Please Read!First, I would like to say please bear with me, I haven't posted at my usual times this last week, and I should have posted and told everyone what I was up to at least. I am rearranging almost my entire house. We moved in here four years ago, and had a large addition built on. Shortly thereafter my daughter and her three girls were in an awful car wreck, and had to stay with us for about six months so I could care for them. So, we set up hospital beds in our new addition, and made it into a care facility for our family in need. When they got better, and they did recover wonderfully, thanks to God's blessings, we just kind of moved hospital beds, and wheel chairs out and stuck furniture in the room. I never did really think about how I wanted to arrange it, or what I really wanted the purpose of the four added rooms to be. So now I am switching rooms for better function, and trying to think what style I really want them decorated in, and to top it off, I am combining two craft rooms into one more streamlined, efficient one. So...needless to say, I am super busy. I will be able to do so much more crafting when this is all settled. It should only take about another week. Please bear with me. I love all my friends who read my blog, and wouldn't want to loose one. In the Meantime, before I close, I feel like God has put something on my heart I have to say. I know this is a crafting blog, but I am a Christian first, and I have to follow what God would have me do. So please read on:

I absolutely love children. I am a Superhero defender of children, and something has come to my attention that I feel needs to be said. So many times I sit back and watch children interacting with their parents in malls, at the park, at family gatherings, and so on, and sometimes it's all I can do to keep from crying. In this busy world we live in, sometimes I think we come to take them for granted. God has given us these precious gifts to cherish, teach, instruct, and influence, and while we all love our children, I don't think we remember to treat them like people. I have seen mothers sitting and talking in groups while their children play at family gatherings, and I know children shouldn't interrupt adults, sometimes that's the only way they can get a word in! I have seen a small child stand patiently for five to ten minutes with his hand on his mom's knee waiting to tell her something or ask for help, and then he would begin to say, Mom.....Mom.....MOM! The mother turns and yells right in his face WHAT DO YOU WANT??? The look on the little child's face makes me want to cry. Just stop and think for a minute, how would you feel if someone screamed at you like that when you needed their attention for a moment? It's so demeaning. We are supposed to be their protectors, and make them feel loved, and secure. We tend to not think of our children as people with feelings, they are "Just kids". But they do have feelings, and we need to remember that they don't even have the life experience that we have had to draw upon to solve their emotional problems. No one means more to them than we do, and we can break their little hearts very easily. Simply saying to the person to whom you are conversing with, "Excuse me just a moment, please hold that thought, my child needs my attention for just a moment," would be so much easier on both you and your child. Even with teenagers, while they may not admit our approval is important at this stage of their life, to most, rejection of any kind really hurts them too.

I have also witnessed parents making fun of their child for being sensitive, like crying easily, or getting their feelings easily hurt, or being crabby. Sometimes people just have days where they are sensitive or crabby. In this day and time tenderness and sensitivity should be treasured. So many people have become hardened their attitude towards life and others Adults "get up on the wrong side of the bed" sometimes, and we usually justify our ill behavior, or sensitivity to some occurrence in our life giving us the right to behave badly.
But you know, if we are adults and can't always control our behavior, how can we expect more of these little ones? We often times expect more emotional stability and strength from out children than we do from ourselves and other adults in our life. I don't want to seem to lecture, and I am not pointing the finger at anyone, I am just asking, take a moment to think before you react to situations with your children, and ask your self " How would I feel if someone talked to me the way I am getting ready to talk to my child?" I have made the mistake myself, and their little sad face will come back to my mind later, and I am ashamed of how I treated them. We never know how long we will have with our loved ones, I have lost many loved ones over the years, let's try not to hurt the ones we treasure the most. This advice could go for interacting with adults too. Always ask yourself, "How would I feel if someone said the same thing to me, or treated me this way?" before you react thoughtlessly.

I hope I haven't hurt anyone's feelings, or offended anyone, I just felt like it needed to be said. We are all trying to rush around and get through our busy day's work, and we don't slow down to think about people and how we are treating them, we just get annoyed if they get in our way. Let's take a moment, once in a while, and analyze how we seem to others. What are we projecting to others with our behavior? Thanks for listening! Love to you all!Janehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13182217224616156491noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-332828030467546809.post-2192283579891545292011-03-28T21:35:00.000-07:002011-03-28T21:35:46.384-07:00Lamp from a Creamer Container

You will have to look at the pictures from the bottom up, because I cannot get my picture to reverse the order in my posts. I have tried and I have given up. This is a skirt my eleven year old granddaughter brought to me. She asked me if I could add a little something to the bottom to make it a little longer, because it still fit around, but it was a little too short. It's one of her favorites, so I thought I would try. Yellow is her very favorite color, so, being that I can't just do one thing to anything, I proceeded to update and embellish it a bit! If You would like to do this to a skirt of your own, and it didn't already have diagonal seams, You could just mark and draw some guides onto it for your self and create the same look. I have a picture above of a darling pattern I picked up at the store last week. I think the little top, pants, dress and skirt are decorated cute on the pattern, but you could also easily disregard the patterns embellishments and add some of your own creativity. I also made her a little headband to match, she has very long, straight hair, so it should look really cute. I may be able to talk her into modeling it all for me, and let me take some pictures, but she is pretty camera shy. If I get one, I will post it. Do you ever feel that way? I get an idea for something, and I will sketch the idea up and it looks appealing and then I start finding the supplies I need, and begin to assemble the project, and that's usually where my idea either comes together beautifully, without any hesitation, or, it turns a weird corner and goes awry. That's when I think, "Should I waste the time finishing this? Or, should I scrap it now?" It's so hard to decide. I felt like this about this project. I started off making the round centerpiece as a pin. I thought it was a somewhat pretty pin, and my daughter saw it and said she loved it and so I decided I would make it into a necklace for her. Then I started adding parts to it, and making the necklace, and now I am afraid to give it to her, I think I went to far! I don't have a lot of confidence in my creations anyway, that is one of the reasons I started a blog. It is a lot easier to show someone your design and not have to be face to face.
So, I am asking for some comments. If you don't like it, I won't blame you, I made it and I'm not sure if I even like it! I am thinking of cutting everything off it except the little center circle pin that I started off with.

This week I decided to tackle some turtlenecks that I got at an end of the season sale, a few weeks ago, for twenty-five cents each. I wouldn't want something I have so much invested in to be forgotten, and not used! I had went to "Cut out and Keep" to this this link: http://www.cutoutandkeep.net/projects/tshirt_shrug# and found out how to make a shrug from a T shirt, and cut off the neck and cut down the middle of the front, like the tutorial suggests. The only thing that I changed is: When you go around your corner up at the neck area, I rounded the corner, rather than leaving it squared off. It was too hard to fold the inch over to make the casing for your ribbon, in that area. There was too much fabric and too much bulk for me to make a smooth turn. So I just rounded my corners off, then all went smoothly. I also added a 2 inch ruffle to the bottom, and neck area. I measured the bottom of the shirt and made the ruffle 2" wide by the measurement of the bottom, plus one half that length added to it. So, if your bottom measurement is 24 inches, then it would be: 24 + 12 =36 inches long. I ran two rows of basting stitches down the ruffle, then found and marked the center. I started pinning it to the bottom of the shirt, wrong sides together, easing in the ruffles to fit. Make sure you stop with the tapered end of the ruffle before your casing for ribbon, or you won't be able to put your ribbon through. Next, stitch the ruffle on. I pressed the seam allowance toward the top of the garment, and then top stitched about 1/8 from seam to make the ruffle lay nicer. Repeat the same for neck ruffle, but make sure you stitch it on below your sewing line for the casing, as not to interfere with it. Feed your ribbon through, tie a bow and adjust your gathers. I added some flowers near the neck area. Mine is a size two for the cutest little princess you've ever seen, but...she has decided, lately, that she does not like to model clothes, nor have gram take her picture! So even though it looks much cuter on an adorable two year old, how can you argue with a princess?? My daughter ( otherwise known as the princess's mother), makes all of her adorable hair decorations, and she has some beautiful ones.Janehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13182217224616156491noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-332828030467546809.post-9579574302569773242011-03-09T14:12:00.000-08:002011-03-09T14:12:47.851-08:00I'm Hung up on Necklaces I think I am addicted to making necklaces, jewelry in general. I am loving playing with the paperclips and tape, I am mad at my camera, though! I can not get it to take pictures true to color. My background on the zebra is a soft pink, and I am getting peachy. It looks like I have a sepia tone overcasting it. I've tried all kinds of lighting, nothing works! I need a new one, but funds are not allowing it right now. I am also having problems with the date on my pictures. My camera is putting bizarre dates, going all the way back to 2006 on my pictures! I keep resetting it, but it puts the wrong date almost every time! Anyway, enough complaining. I have been pretty busy lately, and haven't had time for many projects, but I have sneaked in a couple pieces of jewelry late at night. I thought about calling my jewelry creations
"Midnight Oil Designs", because it seems most of my work is done in the wee hours of the morning, after midnight, "Burning the midnight oil". I love blue and white together, I love birds, and when I was these cute blue and white china birds, I knew I had to create something with them. I would like to mention someone who commented on my last post and mention her blog. It is Debbie, from Simply Debbie, and she is the sweetest lady. Her blog is a praying blog, and it is such a wonderful, God filled blog. I really enjoyed it. If any of you get a chance, check it out. Well, I guess that's about all I have for now. Hopefully, I will have something a little bit more interesting soon. I am trying to get my lovely daughter who paints beautiful murals and designs great rooms to let me feature her on my blog. I will try to get her on this week. Happy crafting, and I hope you all have a great week.

This is an origami flower, I made for our school, I am designing these little corsages to be sold at the football games with a portion of the profits to go to the school. Our school colors are black and orange, and are called the "Dutchmen". If you notice, the school logo is on the flowers. I like this idea, and am using it on other projects, as well. For those of you who make paper flowers, think of the possibilities! You could put a sentiment on them, personalize with a person's name, Express affection by printing "Love you" on them, Print "baby" for a shower decoration, the possibilities are limitless. I am really excited about this! It doesn't have to stop with flowers, either. On any small paper project that can fit through your printer can be done this way.You could personalize wrapping paper for small gifts, handmade envelopes, cards, anything. I simply go into photoshop and pick the watermark for my background, on mine you can choose if you want it straight, or at a chosen angle, how close together you want the words, size, color of font, and etc. You are only limited by your imagination. I also use background designs and print my own graphics to personalize my items, say, like my granddaughter likes zebra print, if I can't find paper I like, I just print my own, and then make the flowers for her from that. I've added various other pictures, sorry they aren't in a very nice layout, I can't seem to get my pictures to line up where and in the order I want them in my posts, so I just fight with them a little and then let them decide where they want to sit (kind of like kids in a car fighting over who sits where, or at the table...sound familiar?!). This isn't the idea of the century, it's just a simple little thought that might make your flowers and pennants, and other paper items more personal, or themed in a way you would like.

I don't know if any of you have memories like this, but when I was a little girl, there was nothing I loved to do more than go through my mom's jewelry box and look at all her jewelry. She had a lot of old pieces that had sentimental value, and new ones too. I felt like it was a treasure. A few years ago when my mom passed, I inherited her jewelry boxes, and all the treasures within. There was a single, screw on earring in there that always caught my eye, It had been my grandmother's, and my mom kept it for sentimental reasons, because her mom had passed on when I was only five, in 1961, so this earring is probably older than I am. It is the swirly piece in the center of the flower in the above pictures. It is so detailed in person, and delicate in color, I just loved it. I took it off the earring back, and was looking for just the right beads to accompany it into a necklace. It had lived in that jewelry box for years and I wanted to be able to wear it and show off Grandma's earring the way it should be. My daughter gave me the shell flower pendant along with other beads for my birthday, and then I got some of the other beads off an old necklace I took apart, and all of a sudden, an idea came to me that these very beads would be the ones worthy of creating a necklace for this lovely earring piece, so I began constructing it. It is an unusual color combination, but I love it. Now I have a necklace to wear that reminds me of my mom and Gram . I think if they could see it, they would approve and be glad it was being put to good use.

We recently got a gently used clothing store in our town. Saturday when I was out running multiple errands, I decided to stop in and have a look around. I was certainly glad I did, because they were having an end of season sale, and all winter clothes were marked to twenty-five cents! I found many shirts for my granddaughters, including a few turtle necks, which they hate. Why? Because I was looking at them with a re-purposing eye. I took one and cut the turtle neck off close to the seam, and split the front down the middle. I then folded under a half inch and used a decorative stitch to finish the edges. Then, using the tutorial from Tea Rose Home for T shirt ruffles and another on her blog for flowers, I added ruffles and flowers made from the fabric I cut off in the neck portion. I then made a button and loop closure at the top to hold it together, made a couple of kitty scatter pins to go with it, and my darling granddaughter has a darling new cardigan for school, and it only cost $0.25. I saw one very similar at Target last week for $16.00. I love making something new and useful from an article of clothing that would be left in the closet and never worn.

She got a great set for a very reasonable price. Of course, while I was waiting, I decided to look around. Everything was pretty much disorganized and kind of strewn around, but I kind of like it sometimes when you have to dig a little and then find cool stuff. Well, my granddaughters and I found a few that we really liked, so they were free. I got a couple of other items, like clothes I can repurpose, for three for a dollar! I am going to make a project out of one to show very soon.

You may remember, I did an Anthro Knock Off of the Trapeze Necklace in November, I got my paperclips back out and decided to try another style, more my own, but still with aluminum roofing tape and paperclips. This time I included some 60's retro looking sequins I have in my craft stash. I love the look of the 60's go-go that this necklace reflects. It's super light weight and has a cool vibe. I added a few silver and black charms here and there, also. I created a pair of earrings to go along with it, and they are ready for a night on the town. I am working on a tutorial for the paperclip necklaces, they are so easy and cheap, and there's no limit to what you could create. Duck tape has some cool new designs that would take well to this project. As a matter-of-fact, the last time I was at Michaels, I noticed that Duck tape now has 8 1/2 x 11 sheets of Duck tape for use in crafts. That would also work well. Has anybody else tried it yet? It's a pretty cool idea. I am going to Michaels Friday to get some, I will let you know how it tests out.

I took the Monster energy drink tabs that are green, and crochet them together to form a flower, and then I put felt on the back with a pin, and sewed a narrow strip of felt over the pin back to secure it and then sewed a channel in the felt where it can be slid onto a narrow headband. I also took seed beads and a few larger beads and made a necklace in the same shade of green, and kept a spot in the middle open for the flower to be added to it. I just hung the flower from the pin back, so It's a versatile little accessory. I made it for my fourteen year old grand daughter. Upon seeing it she said, "Wow, Gram, your starting to get a good edge to your jewelry! I like it". Now that's a good compliment. She wore it to school, and said a bunch of her friends wanted one too. It's refreshing to please a picky teenager. Janehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13182217224616156491noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-332828030467546809.post-6900402666343998242011-02-01T12:13:00.000-08:002011-02-01T12:13:47.669-08:00What Can you Make with Pull Tabs from Beverage Cans?

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">A beautiful bracelet, that's what! <span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">I saw a version of this bracelet in a crochet magazine, and tweaked it to my own taste. I like this project because it recycles something you would throw away into something beautiful and useful.

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">This is my first tutorial, so bear with me. My photos are not the best, but I think I can at least get you the idea of how to make them.

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; font-size: small;">These are the supplies you will need: 16 pull tabs <span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">(this is for an average to lg. size, you can use more or less, figure each tab = one half inch. There is no clasp, it has to fit over your hand like a bangle bracelet), a size H crochet hook, and coats and clarks crochet nylon, size 18, your choice of color. Also, not shown, size 10 cotton crochet thread for the edging, I used white with a gold thread in it, and a size 1 crochet hook for that thread. You will also need a needle with a large eye to thread your cord ends so you can weave them in to finish off.
My DH finished the shelves and counter top and work counters for me. It's so nice to have a place where I can craft without messing up the rest of the house. I am, unfortunately, one of those people who cannot be creative without also creating a large mess. I don't know how you neat people do it. I drag out so much stuff to make something that its mayhem in there. I will show these picture now, because it's probably the cleanest it will be for a while.
<div style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">

<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">A note about the gate, it may seem strange to have a gate up, but there are two reasons for that: One, because I have small grandchildren that visit and I don't want them to get hurt on things in Gram's craft room, and second, I am thrilled to have it, because it is the gate from my parents home, and they have both passed away and we sold the property. I saved the gate as a memento, because I thought it was kind of cute. My husband painted it for me, with a hand pounded pewter-look paint and I decorated it with flowers, and then he figured out a way to make it work in the opening that I had. It may look silly to some, but it's beautiful to me. Janehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13182217224616156491noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-332828030467546809.post-4615915205424528682010-12-14T12:36:00.000-08:002010-12-14T12:36:44.985-08:00Flowers and Wooden Beads

<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">I have been seeing necklaces all over the place with fabric flowers on them, so I decided to make one of my own for a Christmas gift for someone. I learned how to make the flowers from a tutorial on Tea Rose Home, one of my fav blogs, and I have been making them into pins for gifts, and hair ornaments, but I decided I wanted to try a wooden bead and flower necklace. I got the pretty, blue enameled, wooden beads on an old necklace I got in a box at a yard sale. The necklace was far from pretty, but I saved the beads to be re-purposed, and I got the gray organdy ribbon on clearance at Michaels for twenty-five cents. So all in all, it probably only cost me about $1.00 to make it. Janehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13182217224616156491noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-332828030467546809.post-75212016296105483292010-12-14T01:19:00.000-08:002010-12-14T01:19:58.570-08:00Necessity is the Mother of Invention

They were quite pricey, so we decided she might not want that for her birthday, because it would have to be her only gift. Avery loved it so much, it had been on my mind off and on trying to think of how I could get her one. I am making many of my Christmas gifts, and I suddenly thought about making a miniature soft-sculptured doll for her. I had made some full sized ones years ago for my daughters when Cabbage Patch dolls were all the rage, and were in shortage. I got out paper and set about making a pattern for the wee, six inch little babe. I ended up having to hand sew it, because of it's tiny size, but when I finished sewing and sculpting it, I fell in love. She's kind of silly looking, but I think she's sweet. I made her some little clothes also. I think Avery will love her. At least I hope so. Now I have to make another one for my other little two year old grand daughter, Gracie. She loves babies, and I think this one will be just her size. Janehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13182217224616156491noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-332828030467546809.post-28936997788254393702010-12-14T00:42:00.000-08:002010-12-14T00:57:03.246-08:00What Can You Make From Cardboard, Old Book Pages, and Coffee Filters???

Side View of Second Wreath

I found a wreath made from book pages that I was impressed with on "Living With Lindsay". I loved her idea, but wanted to put my own twist on it. I also saw some paper flowers, no tutorial, just a picture, on "Style Me Pretty", that I liked, so I went to work. I figured out how to make the center flower, and got a circle of cardboard, actually out from under a frozen pizza. I cut the book pages from the book with an exacto knife, rolled them into cones, taped the ends, and began to hot glue them around the outer half of the cardboard, and when I made an entire row, I placed another row between those of the first row. When that was done I applied my two toned, bleached, and unbleached, coffee filters by hot gluing them to the back of my cardstock flower. Then, I cut a small square of burlap and fringed it a little, and applied it to the center of the flower and topped it off with a vintage button. I then glued the flower to the center of the wreath. At first it sat too far down in the middle, so I found a small box, a jello box to be honest, and covered it in white paper, and glued it in the middle and glued the flower to that, so it wouldn't sink down too far in the center. It's about 2 1/2 ft. across when finished.
I love this project because it has a very organic look, it is reusing items that might normally be thrown away, and it is very inexpensive, yet looks beautiful.Janehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13182217224616156491noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-332828030467546809.post-30010411533882383672010-11-29T11:31:00.000-08:002010-11-29T11:31:18.104-08:00I am Finally Back!<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">I must apologize for my lack of blog posts lately, I have had some problems arise and have not had the time nor the heart to write anything. It started with the news that my husband's heart is getting weaker (he has a congenital heart problem and has a pacemaker and defibrillator) ,<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;"> and the Dr. put him on blood thinners to help. <span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">He has bad veins in his leg, and one of the veins ruptured and he bled profusely. We ended up in the emergency room, and they are having to find a balance between the thinner blood needed for his heart not to create clots, and not so thin for bleeding if a vein ruptures. That was very scary.

<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">Then of course, I had my fall house cleaning to do before Thanksgiving and Christmas. <span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">We had two Thanksgivings so that we could get together with everyone. One on Thurs. and the other on Fri. and then the unthinkable happened Friday morning....my oldest daughter came over to pick up her girls, and had gotten out of her car and was standing in the driveway, and my little chihuahua, Dexter, ran out in the road and was ran over right in front of my her! She was so upset, she had to come in and act like nothing happened until she could get me in another room to tell me and she was just sick. We didn't want her little girls to know yet, they love him so much it would break their hearts. My husband had to go and get him and bury him. I managed to hold it in until Katie could get the girls out of here and then I cried my eyes out. He was my best little friend. A lot of chihuahuas are snippy, and not very friendly, but he loved everyone, and everyone loved him. He was a little deer- type, and he looked like a little baby deer when he was curled up sleeping. He sat on my lap while I did all my crafting, he rode in the car with me, and slept on my bed right next to me every night. <span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">He was terrified of storms and would always run to me or someone to hold him and make him feel safe' til it was over. <span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">He may have been very tiny, but he left a giant hole in my heart when he left. I guess it is silly to care so much for an animal, but he was just special. I have other dogs that I love too, but he had a special place in my heart. I do have his daughter, Lulu, She is quite a bit bigger, as she is part rat terrier, from her mom, Madeline, but she is sweet too, and seems to sense my sadness, and is trying to move in to the position of constant companion. She follows me everywhere now.Needless to say, it was hard to have the Friday Thanksgiving celebration, and entertain a houseful of guests with my heart so broken, but I figured it would be better to stay busy.

<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">I will back to posting now and I am making many Christmas gifts, as money is a little tight around here this year, so I will have some things to show you, and hopefully, a couple of giveaways and maybe a tutorial, or two. I don't have very many people reading my blog, but at least I would like for it to be interesting for those who do. Janehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13182217224616156491noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-332828030467546809.post-91011806072426618552010-11-09T09:04:00.000-08:002010-11-09T09:04:05.826-08:00Anthro Knockoff

<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">My version

<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">I was looking on Anthropolgie at jewelry a couple of days ago, and I saw a necklace that I liked the shape and look of, but was appalled at how sloppy it was made and they wanted $168.00 dollars for it! It was paperclips with contact paper or tape wrapped around each one. When I looked at it closely it wasn't even neatly done! I have a necklace from paper clips that I made in a different style, long ago, and I like they way they look, so I decided to try my own version of theirs. I wanted a more organic look to mine, so I cut one inch squares of decorative paper,<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;"> and glued them and wrapped them around the paperclips, I need to mention though, that you cannot wrap the paper clips until you are done connecting them, or you wouldn't be able to hook them to each other.<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;"> Then I wanted to make them more <span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">sturdy, so I took a small paintbrush and coated each one with two coats of Triple Thick glaze. Then, I found in my bead stash some shells that I thought looked good with the colors, and embellished <span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">the necklace with a few of them. The great thing is even though it did probably take about 6 hours to make, it only cost me about a dollar in supplies. The possibilities are endless, if you use paper, the designs and colors are limitless. I also would like to try making one with some of the Japanese printed masking tapes that are out on the market now. If you try this, come on back here and post a pic of your work, I would love to see it.!
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">Have a great day, and thanks for stopping by!Janehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13182217224616156491noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-332828030467546809.post-17134989963618328142010-11-08T14:56:00.000-08:002010-11-08T14:56:30.564-08:00When and Where do You Get Your Ideas?<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">I get my ideas in the strangest places and the strangest times sometimes. I was wondering if anyone else would like to share what and how and when they are inspired? I truly believe our talents are a gift from God, and we are meant to use them to somehow encourage or inspire others. I also believe we are ambassadors for God in this world, it makes me so happy to see how many of us who have crafting and cooking blogs are Christians. Many are home schoolers, and such good family oriented people. I feel sorry, I think a lot of children are being raised by babysitters, and when mom and dad come home they have so much to do in the evenings, there isn't much time for family activities and individual attention. My daughter works, and has three girls, and by the time they get all the chores done and homework, it's time for bed. I know with the economy the way it is a lot of women have to work, and I feel a lot of compassion for them, because it is so hard and <span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">it puts a lot of pressure on the family. <span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">That's where grandmas and grandpas come in handy. I try to help my daughter a lot.<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;"> Trying to keep her spirits up, and not to let her get overcome, <span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">while she is trying to support her family. <span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">My other two daughters are lucky enough to be stay at home moms.
I get mine in some strange ways. I stayed up very late working on a tutorial project a couple of nights ago, and decided I needed at least a little sleep, so I laid down in bed, and I was thinking about the tube watercolors my son had gifted me with two years ago, <span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">that I hadn't even tried yet. <span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">Suddenly I got a picture in my mind, at three a.m., and thought, <span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">"Oh that's cute, I will have to draw that up, TOMORROW." Well, the image and excitement about it kept bugging me, until I had to get up, get a piece of paper and a magazine to use for support to draw on, and some colored pencils to draw with, and laid back down in bed and proceeded to draw this picture that was on my mind. Then when I woke up, I had the image I liked for a second pic, and had to draw it when I woke up. I get a lot of fresh ideas in the shower too, maybe the water tapping on my head stimulates my brain!lol Sometimes I will be driving, or sitting down to eat dinner, and an idea will pop in my head, too. If I try to think of something, I usually can't, it has to be when I am not thinking about it. How does it work for you? Well, the next day, I tried out the watercolors, and these are the pictures that I painted. Janehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13182217224616156491noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-332828030467546809.post-73760770832085815432010-11-03T19:49:00.000-07:002010-11-03T19:49:02.361-07:00Repurposing a Curtain Valence<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">I decided to face the monster yesterday, and resort and organize my linen closet. <span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">Ughhh! I don't think anyone looks forward to that job, am I right? In doing so, I did find curtains that I have been hanging onto for years, some were even from my mom's house. I looked at them with a repurposing eye, and I thought what could I do with these, there is a lot of good material here, ruffles, lace, there should be something. I took some of the valences to my sewing room and I took a teal one with a ruffle at the bottom, cut the middle out, made a contrasting strip of fabric to go across the top, hemmed the sides, and ran a decorative ribbon across the top, with extra on each end for ties. Then I got into my stash of fabric yo-yos circles, remembering I had a red plaid one with scotty dogs that would make a good pocket. I had just enough of a strip of the contrasting fabric to make a cute little flower to embellish it with, and I have an apron! <span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">I am putting together a tutorial (my first, wish me luck!), I should have it ready in a couple of days. I also have a couple more ideas for curtains, that I think you will like. I find cute curtain valences at thrift shops and never thought of what I could do with them. For instance, if nothing else, if there is a nice wide gathered ruffle at the bottom, why not carefully cut it off, leaving a bit of the fabric it's sewn to, and apply it to the bottom of a little girls skirt? If you wanted an apron in a hurry, you could just run a ribbon through the rod casing adjust the gathers, stitch across to keep the gathers from shifting, and tie it on! I see a lot of possibilities. <span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">Maybe from a fancy, flouffy set of cutains, a little girls play dress- up outfit?
